Best Carbon Filter for Weed 2020

Why use carbon filters?
Is the use of carbon filters the only way to reduce the spread of the pungent smell that comes from a grow room? The answer is no however, carbon filters are the most effective and highly preferred way to absorb smells that go beyond the grow room. The use of gel and air purifiers only masks the smell.

What to Look For In a Carbon Filter?

Grow Room Size
What size carbon filter do you need for your grow room? This is the very first question that you have to ask yourself.

Start by calculating the volume of air used in your grow room. For example, if your grow room is 10 by 12 feet, and your ceiling is 8.5 feet high. The volume is 1020 cubic feet.

Similarly, if you are growing in a tent, it is the air volume of the grow tent itself that you need to take into as far as your calculations go.

How to Know the Time to Change a Carbon Filter?
When the activated carbon inside the filter saturates, it stops absorbing odor. Hence, an indication of the time to change the carbon filter is that it stops trapping smell from the environment.

Your grow room will have the bad smell back when the carbon filter gets out of order. However, being in the same environment might make your nose receptors accustomed to the smell. It is always a good idea to make someone else smell the marijuana grow tent.

You can also smell the carbon inside the filter and look for a strong carbon smell to see how alive the activated charcoal is. This can be done every 3 to 4 months to ensure proper functioning.

TerraBloom Air Carbon Filter

The TerraBloom filter uses top-grade RC-48 charcoal from Australia packed into a 1.8-inch filter bed, resulting in more carbon and more effective airflow to prevent smell in your room. As there is more carbon in the filter bed, it also means that the unit has a longer lifespan that filters that have a thinner filter bed. In fact, the life span of this filter is what helped it to earn a spot on our list. TerraBloom promises two years of continuous usage from this unit.

Phresh Carbon Filter for Grow Tent

The Phresh Carbon Filter is a very effective filter that will provide an environment that would be ideal for any grow room. If the reviews we’ve seen other users leave about this filter are anything to go by, you’ll certainly love the performance of this filter. The carbon filter setup in grow tent is also made easy by the shape of the filter.

ECO FARM Carbon Filter

Similar to other models, the ECO FARM 4″ Carbon filter also comes with a pre-filter unit. This pre-filter unit will make sure that the air passing through the filter gets thoroughly cleaned.

The carbon charcoal used in this filter is commonly used in most filters. A unique attribute of this device is that the company ECO FARM claims that its device will filter 100% of air flow at over 200 cfm.

Having a reversible flange means that there are two ways you can use this carbon filter. We also like this 4 inch carbon filter because it provides great value for the cost and a long two-year lifespan.

Final Notes On Carbon Filters
Although not necessary to grow big buds indoors, a carbon filter inside a grow tent is always a good thing to have. Not just for the smell but also for your plant’s health. Air circulation inside a tent is a must for healthy buds hands down.

carbon filter for grow room is a perfect add on to venting systems because they do what they are supposed to do.

Best LED Grow Light setup: How to hang & setup LED Grow Light?(Review 2020)

Growing your plant indoors requires getting a lot of things done right. One of the biggest aspects of those things deals with the use of cannabis grow lights.

Plant Lighting Intensity and Duration
Different species of plants (and sometimes even different varieties or cultivars within species) require different amounts of light for ideal growth, and flowering plants often require more light while flowering and fruiting than during vegetative growth.

The total amount of light received by a plant each day is determined by both the intensity of the light and the duration of the illumination. For example, if you have a light running for 2 hours per day, it only takes 1 hour for a light that is twice as intense to create the same total amount of light.

Marijuana Lighting for a Closet Grow
When growing weed in a tight space like a closet, you want short, bushy growth.

This ensures maximum yields without needing a large number of plants. High quality buds are especially important, since the small space limits potential yield size.

Heat can become problematic in a small grow space, so a high-output full spectrum LED grow light is your best bet.

Set up ratchets and hangers depending on your needs. Rope ratchets will help you adjust the height of your grow light as and when the need changes. Basically, you can elongate the size of your rope to bring the light closer to the plant to provide more light and heat, while you can move it up and shorten the rope so that it provides lesser heat to the plants.

Hang your light too far, and the plant might grow slow or stunted. Hang your lights too close and you risk burning out the plant. Hence, depending on the type of light that you are using, the type of equipment that you are using along with your grow lights, as well as the growth phase that the plant is in, you need to keep the light at just the right height. Make sure you’ve done sufficient research on how far the light should be from your plant before you switch the setup on for growth!
Early growth stage
During the early growth of cannabis, Led grow lights should be hung at a position about 300 mm above the plants. This way can promote the height of the tree.
Main growth period
At this stage, you can raise the LEDs from 300 to 600 mm above the tree, the distance will correspond to the density of the plants.
Sprouting and flowering phases
During the sprouting and flowering period, you are still able to maintain the LED lights at a position of 300 to 600 mm above the plants’ top.

In general, about 400 mm above the leaf canopy seems to be the ideal height for hanging the led grow lights for cannabis.

ECO Farm CREE COB 300W LED Grow Light

ECO Farm Cree COB 300W Full Spectrum Led Grow Light

This 300 watt grow light by Vivosun is the brightest entry in this ECO farm led grow light review. The light comes from a mix of high lux COB and chips. It puts out as much light as three or four HPS grow lights as just one. Yet you get all of that light from a single rectangular grow light.

The full spectrum grow light puts out UV as well as infrared. You get an ideal mix of red, blue and white light. This is good enough to replace sunlight for most phases of growth. It won’t provide the maximal red light you may want for the biggest flowers and fruit, though it will foster that type of growth.

Best Scale for Weed 2020

While you could probably eyeball measurements during your usual everyday tasks, when you’re in the weed business, accuracy is everything. Whether you are growing it or processing it, weighing weed precisely is quite crucial because even a gram over or under can cost you a big fortune. Therefore, if you don’t want yourself in that position, you need a weed weight scale.

The weed scale you buy from the market depends a lot upon your requirements and budget. Of course a lightweight, portable weighing scale is great if you want to use it for weighing weed for personal use only. But you surely need a robust quality weed weighing scale if you deal in large quantities of weed as inaccuracy can cost you a fortune. Once you know your budget and requirements, it becomes easier for you to spot the weed weighing scale that is perfect for your use.

Best Small-Medium Weed Scales
Most people prefer weed scales that can hold a bit more weight and are suitable for all-around use but aren’t necessarily as tiny as pocket scales. This is why small-medium duty scales are a great choice, and also the most popular.

These marijuana scales are still small enough to tote around, but they can hold a bit more weight than their pocket counterparts. They provide great capacity and excellent precision, as well as a ton of features and a huge selection to choose from.

Brifit Digital Mini Scale 200g Pocket Scale

The Brifit Digital Mini Scale, 200g / 0.03g Pocket Scale is built with a high-precision sensor system that provides accurate results from 0.03g to 200g.

This scale is easy to clean and guarantees an accurate weighing reading. This portable scale includes all of the necessary unit measurements for easy weight translations and measurement conversions between g/oz/ozt/dwt/ct/gn.

This is easily performed by simply choosing the correct unit by pressing the mode button.

Eco Farm Pocket Weed Scale

The Eco Farm Pocket Scale allows you to weigh a maximum weight of 1000g and has very precise measuring. The protective flip cover on this product is stronger than the others and also has easy, light touch buttons with large digits. This one also contains a nice LCD backlit display which makes it easy to read in another conditions.

The different weight modes include: g / oz / ozt / dwt. It has a nice stainless steel platform and also has an auto shut off to save battery life. It’s definitely a good scale and the 10-year warranty is nice so if something malfunctions you can return it. The accuracy is also top-notch, although there was a minor discrepancy when compared to other products.

How to choose the best digital scale for your needs?
The first step in choosing a scale is to understand a little about the metric system. For example, here are things that weigh approximately one gram:

a paperclip
one US dollar bill
one cubic centimeter of water

It takes a little more than 28 grams to equal one US ounce. Did you know you can get about 40 joints out of one ounce of pot? And you probably already know that an eighth of marijuana is 1/8-ounce, or about 3.5 grams.

Final Thoughts
Choosing a best weed scale might not be high on your priority list when growing marijuana, but choosing the right one can save you tons of time and headache. When you’re already investing time and money into making your grow space the best it can be, there’s no reason to cut corners on something as simple as a scale.

What does COB mean on LED Grow Lights?

What are Chip-on-Board (“COB”) LEDs?
Chip-on-Board or “COB” refers to the mounting of a bare LED chip in direct contact with a substrate (such as silicon carbide or sapphire) to produce LED arrays. COB LEDs have a number of advantages over older LED technologies, such as Surface Mounted Device (“SMD”) LEDs or Dual In-line Package (“DIP”) LEDs.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF USING COB LED LIGHTS?
One of the biggest advantages of COB grow lights is that they are much more efficient than other types of marijuana grow lights. Including HPS grow lights, ceramic metal halide, and fluorescent lighting. The efficiency of these lights is measured in umol/j units,. This represents the amount of photosynthetically active protons produced by the lights. While COB LED grow lights produce 1.8 – 2.5 umol/j, other grow lights produce far less than this. Double-ended HPS lights will only produce 1.4 – 1.8 umol/j. While fluorescents will produce a measly 0.6 – 1.1 umol/j.

The longest lifespan among all lighting alternatives belonged to High Pressure Sodium products. They are able to last between 9.000 and 17.000 hours, which isn’t bad at all. But, COB LEDs can last between 30.000 and 60.000 hours, so the benefit or better said advantage here is obvious. Even the low-end COB lights will last 3 times longer than any other type of lighting.

The difference between COB LED and traditional SMD LEDs:

  • The COBs are not as bulky as SMDs even with the same lumen density.
  • COBs produce less heat than SMDs as they have fewer components and the heat dissipation system is more effective.
  • SMDs allow you to change the color of the light while COB only produces a single color light (white).
  • Better light distribution and coverage by SMDs.
  • SMDs penetrate better than the COB LED light.

CANAGROW 200W CREE CXB3590 COB LED Grow Light

Another product that embraces the Cree 3590 grow light, the CANAGROW Cree CXB3590 COB LED Grow Light is a full spectrum, 200W option with a dimmable power switch. It also features low noise fans, so you shouldn’t be distracted by unexpected sounds.
In comparison to some higher wattage options, this Cree LED grow light is also fairly compact. There is the option to daisy chain two of these lights together if you need more coverage than a single light can provide. However, it can support up to 70 square feet, so you may find that sufficient.
Eco Farm 450W CREE CXB3590 COB LED Grow Light

Eco Farm 450W CREE CXB3590 COB LED Grow Light

This CXB3590 grow light is equivalent to a 280-300W LED grow lights. According to the manufacturer, it matches a 600-800 watt HPS Grow light, though it is more like half that. It is a full spectrum grow light, though it is weaker on ultraviolet light than expected. It puts out less UVA and UVB than some of its competitors, though this doesn’t matter if you’re looking for a red light. You can use this grow light for seedlings, leafy greens or fruiting plants.
In ConclusionIf you are interested in getting started with indoor growing or if you have been growing indoors for some time already, you will want to ensure you are using the best equipment to yield the results you are looking for. This means that you should consider which are the best COB LED grow lights to use for your particular space and how each will affect your plant development.

How many plants can you grow with a 300W LED grow light?

How many plants per light?
This is sometimes an issue for novice growers and it has a pretty simple solution. The amount of plants per light depends on the type of plants and how you grow them, apart from the space you have and the potency of the plants.

Planting seeds is not the same as planting clones, and autoflowering seeds aren’t the same as seasonal seeds; plants that have more yield on the tips of the branches aren’t the same as plants that have larger yields in the central calyx.

Watts per square foot
The average LED grow light draws about 50 watts to cover 1 sq ft for flowering. Compare this to a typical HID grow lightfixture which rings in at 40 watts per square foot (assuming a 5’ x 5’ area, or 25 sq ft coverage area). Using an HID in a 4’ x 4’ will bring the power coverage up to 62.5 watts per sq ft. (The energy saving that growers can expect from using LED grow lights instead of HID is around 38%. This energy savings only takes into account to savings growers gain when using LEDs fixtures. It does not account for other environmental factors where growers can save energy. For example, less ventilation and air conditioning may be used, or foregone completely, depending on the size of the setup and ambient temperatures. Total power savings may rise above 50% in certain scenarios.)

How Many Plants Can I Grow?
In general, each cannabis plant you grow requires at least 1sq ft of space. After germination, I like to pot one plant in a large 5 gallon fabric container, which has a diameter of roughly 1 sq foot. My plant will stay in this pot until it flowers.

This allows the plant to grow big and strong without other plants or marijuana grow tent walls obstructing its progress. Using this as a guideline, I would be able to grow between 1–6 plants in my example above.

If you grow with 6 sq ft (2×3) and use 300w LED grow light, you can grow about 1–6 plants.

Advanced Platinum P300 LED grow light

This light has a 12-band spectrum which includes infrared and ultraviolet rays. Advanced Platinum as a name has a lot of respect throughout the growing community. The wide array of light helps stimulate photosynthesis, and the intensity is equal to the more expensive professional lights.

The wavelengths available on the Advanced Platinum Series 12-band LED grow light includes everything your plant needs throughout photosynthesis. The intensity remains constant which also helps their growth, but it fails to mimic the sun exactly.

Viparspectra 300W LED Grow Light

Viparspectra 300W LED Grow Light is equipped with 60pcs of Epileds/BridgeLux LEDs. Which is known for its reliability and superior quality. This LED chips are durable and can stay in working condition for a longer time.

Focusing angle refers to the angle of light cone that is created by the primary lens of an LED. This phenomenon is normally ignored by buyers but in reality, it matters when it comes to light penetration of plants in your grow tent.

LED Grow Light Distance Chart: How Far Should Led Grow Lights Be From Plants?

The LED Grow Light must be used properly for optimum growth and yield. The most common mistakes with LEDs are not having enough light and not placing the light at the proper distance. If you do not provide enough light, your plants will not grow to their full potential. Similarly, incorrect light placement will also not allow plants to grow to their full potential. Placing a light too close will stunt growth, too far will cause stretching. Follow the recommended coverage areas listed on the Details Page of each light for optimal light penetration and coverage. Keep in mind that there are many variables to indoor growing with lighting being one of the most critical.

How Far To Place LED Lights From Plants In Each Stage Of Growth?
Once again, it is important to understand that there is no universal rule for how far to place LED lights from plants in each phase of growth. Different manufacturers construct their LED lights in different ways. There are multiple details to take into consideration, such as the power and angle of individual LED diodes within a fixture and the use of lenses to reflect light downwards. The best way to get that perfect distance between the light and your canopy is to consult with the manufacturer.

The chart below shows how the distance between the lights & plants needs to be adjusted based on the wattage of your lights:

Why Are LED Grow Lights the Best Option for Your Marijuana Plant?
led grow lights for indoor plants are the best when it comes to an indoor growing setup! This is because they provide a much better wattage of light compared to some of the older/traditional lighting systems (fluorescent lights/high pressure sodium lamps/metal halides) while also not carrying any harmful chemicals inside them. Moreover, they are much more energy efficient and help save electricity costs. Furthermore, LED grow lights tend to last for much longer (about 50,000 hours on an average) compared to older forms of lighting. The best option for most modern-day growers is to get panels of full spectrum LED grow lights which allow them to easily provide light to different kinds of plants through different kinds of phases of their growth.

How does cannabis grow?

There are many different ways to grow medical marijuana. Which method is right for you depends upon your circumstances and what you want to invest in time, money and commitment.

Any of these methods will yield good results for a dedicated gardener. However, what you get out of it will depend upon what you put into it. A crop is subject to all kinds of threats, ranging from lack of water, to improper fertilizer, to bugs and animals that will eat it. If you really want good, high-grade marijuana you will have to put a little work into it, no matter which method you use.

Cannabis grows in a variety of climates around the world and can be used in many applications: rope, biofuel, paper, and many medical and recreational uses. The plant is part of the Cannabaceae family, which also includes hops. It is further classified as Cannabis sativa L. Each part of the plant serves a purpose and while the whole of a cannabis plant is certainly greater than the sum of its parts, knowing its parts can inform your experience and appreciation of it.

Growing your own weed is the first step to becoming a real cannabis connoisseur. Luckily, cannabis is quite an easy plant to grow. But if you want some good results it’s wise to do some research first.

Starting a grow will help you build a strong relationship with the cannabis plant, and truly understand what this beautiful plant is all about. You need to know what cannabis plants need in order for them to grow into healthy mature plants that deliver good amounts of beautiful and smelly buds. To provide these needs, most growers need to do some preparations first.

The Right Amount of Light
The cannabis plant is relatively self-sufficient because it can make its own food. However, to make that food, weed plants require a good amount of light to convert carbon dioxide into sugars. Therefore, not enough light is detrimental to growth.

A weed plant that does not receive enough light will stretch to get closer to its light source. When this happens, you’ll end up with thin plants that have very few leaves.

On the other hand, too much light can burn and weaken leaves.

The good news is, you can easily control the amount of light that your weed plants receive. If you are growing indoors by using marijuana grow tent, simply adjust the distance of the cannabis grow light. Outdoors, this could be a little difficult to control, but you can position your plants so that they receive direct sun for optimal exposure.

The key factor to remember with the temperature and humidity surrounding your plant is the fact that it should be different during the day (or during the artificial “day” created by your lighting technique) and the night. When the grow lights for weed are on, the temperature should be between 68 and 78 degrees Fahrenheit. This should drop down by about 15 degrees for the nighttime temperature.

Aside from nourishment, light is also crucial for your plant’s transition through its lifecycles. This matters because you need to know when it is time to harvest.

California Lightworks SolarXtreme 1000

SolarXtreme 1000 - California LightWorks

This is a full spectrum LED grow light that is made in the USA, but sells for a price much lower than other American-made lights.

How did California Lghtworks pull this off? They removed all frills.

What is left is a horticultural light that is easy to use and that was designed especially for grow tents and smaller scale home growing.

What is the most efficient grow light?

For the many growers who are unable to cultivate cannabis outside in the free abundant sunshine, grow lights are necessary to successfully grow cannabis indoors. Cannabis grow lights take the place of the sun, and power the growth of your plants and their buds. Light is like “food” for your plants, so without a lot of bright light, even a healthy cannabis plant won’t produce much bud at all.

Fluorescent lights are the most popular choice for home growers. Some newer types offer a wider light spectrum for all-purpose use, but traditional fluorescent bulbs lack the appropriate range for flowering and are best suited for germination and vegetative growth. Because they produce less heat, fluorescent lights are safer, more versatile and more effective than incandescent bulbs while remaining budget-friendly.

HPS Grow Lights have grown in popularity and are overtaking fluorescent tubes and bulbs. These lights are more common among commercial and experienced indoor growers and the technology behind them is well established, already over 75 years old.

The problem with HPS is that it produces a considerable amount of heat. As such, you must keep the lights a good distance from the plants. They require a significant amount of investment to set up and maintain. Therefore, HPS is not recommended for small growers.

LED grow lights are one of the most popular options available on the market today. Whilst not the cheapest, they are the most efficient type of grow light, produce specific wavelengths of light to promote plant growth and are incredibly durable.

LED grow lights produce much less heat than HID grow lights, so dissipation of heat is rarely a significant issue. For this reason, they can be placed closer to the plants that you are cultivating, resulting in increased light uptake by the plants.

WHERE DOES CANNABIS GROW NATURALLY?

In more recent times, marijuana has been known to grow in locations that have been specifically selected to grow it. That means that most marijuana plants have been a result of human intervention on the cultivation of marijuana, rather than actually growing naturally. The marijuana plant that we smoke today is more the product of human intervention than it is nature. The final product that reaches the consumer is usually the unpollinated female cannabis plant, and this is not what usually grows in the wild.

People who want to be cannabis growers ask, “where does marijuana plant grow naturally?” Basically, marijuana can grow anywhere if you have the right seeds. You can easily buy marijuana seeds online. Today, marijuana is largely found in South Asia especially in Afghanistan. And in America, South America holds the largest production of the plant.

The kind of cannabis that grows in the wild is usually known as “ditch weed” and is usually a small, bushy type of cannabis that doesn’t really contain high levels of THC. Of course, that’s not to say that high-level THC marijuana does not grow in the wild, although it’s unlikely plants get to that stage before being eaten by a deer.

Appearance of Marijuana
Marijuana can appear as a gray or green mixture of dried, minced flowers and leaves. It can also come in the form of an oil, wax extracts and a wide variety of food products.

How Long Does It Take to Grow Marijuana?
Grow times for cannabis plants vary widely, but on average, are about three-to-five months for indoor grows. However, there are many factors that could add or subtract from that range, including whether you choose to grow from a clone or a seedling, the target yield (how much consumable product) and the growing method, whether indoor, outdoor, greenhouse, hydroponic, coco, etc.

That’s why most cannabis growers won’t give you a straight answer. The truth is, there are many factors will affect the total time until you have ‘ready’ buds, by days, weeks or even months. This includes your strain, your setup, and how big you plan to grow your plants (bigger plants need more time!). So instead of giving you a huge range, an easier-to-swallow answer might be to say that the average grow takes 3-5 months for indoor growers.

INDOOR VS. OUTDOOR GROWS
Indoor growers, on the other hand, have much more control over the length of their grow. This is due to the fact that they can manually control the cannabis grow light for the light and dark periods their plants are exposed to and force their plants to flower as they see fit.

Indoor growers tend to leave their plants in their vegetative phases for 2, 3, or 4 weeks by exposing to at least 18 hours of light per day. After these few weeks they switch to a light schedule of 12/12 to induce flowering. Some growers, however, may choose to keep their plants from flowering for longer, allowing to bulk up and develop even further and ultimately produce more buds later on.

Once your plants enter their flowering stage, you’ll then have to wait another 6-14 weeks until harvest depending on the genetics of your plants.
