Things to Look for Before Buying Indoor Growing Equipment 2019 Updated

Are you curious about cannabis indoor growing? If you think that you might buy indoor growing equipment soon, you’ll want to be sure that you are able to get what you need. These suggestions will help you to figure out what you should be looking for, and they’ll also help you to avoid issues as you shop.

Essential Marijuana Equipment List
If you don’t have all of the essential grow room equipment, you are doomed to failure. That is why this comprehensive gear list is so important. FYI- You may want to consider purchasing a marijuana growing kit, which may include all of the equipment below.

But, if you’re going to buy your equipment individually, here is your list.

Grow Lights

These are essential weed growing equipment because as you will be gardening indoors, you’ll need cannabis grow light for your plants. For beginners, I would recommend either compact florescent light (“CFL”) or LED lights. LED lights cost more. But with LED lights you’ll save on your power bills, and your yield will be better. However, LED lights have a bit of a learning curve. CFL lights are an excellent equipment choice for newbies or for those who only are wanting to grow one to two marijuana plants as they are quite easy to operate. However, compared to LED, CFL lights have a poor yield.

Grow Light Accessories
Sometimes grow lights will come with all the accessories needed but many times you must buy the accessories separately.
– suspension cables
– power strips and extension cords
– grow tent
– protective glasses / eye-wear for grow lights

Buying a Grow Tent
Indoor Grow tents range in size and height and one of the most important things to consider is how big of a space you want to grow in.

Height is the primary concern, and it is often overlooked when trying to grow in a small space. It’s best to maximize the height of your tent so that the grow lights are far enough above the plants. This will also give more room for air filters, wall fans, and ducting.

All of these additional inputs add up quickly, making space tight inside the small tent. You also won’t be able to grow wall-to-wall and need to account for horizontal growth — if growing in a 4’ x 4’ tent, you’ll really only have a 3’ x 3’ space for the plants.

Pots and Containers
Whether you use pots and containers depends on your method of growing. If you’re growing your plants in soil, which is a great beginning practice for amateurs, you should get some good quality containers. Small containers will work for you initially as your plant germinates and sprouts. However, you will need large pots up to 5 gallons once your plants start to grow up.

Timers
Timers are mainly used to keep you at ease when maintaining a proper grow room. It regulates the natural day and night cycles for your plants so that they can maintain their original environment indoors as well.

Inline Fans & Ducting
Inline fans provide ventilation for your grow room. There will be at least two ventilation holes in your grow tent.

Carbon Filter/Scrubber
Carbon filters or “scrubbers” keep your grow discrete by controlling odors — purifying the air inside your tent.

Thermometer
You’ll need to know the temperature in your garden at all times to make sure your plants aren’t too hot or cold. If the temperatures are off you can dry your plants out or stunt their growth. Thermometers tell you the highs and lows in your grow room so you can monitor the weather and control it inside the grow room according to your necessities. You may want to invest in a hygrometer to also read the humidity levels in your grow room.

pH Meter

It’s important to maintain a good pH level in both your water and soil, using a pH meter can help to do this. The ideal soil pH is between 6.0 and 7.0 while in hydroponics it’s between 5.5 and 6.5. Simply stick them into your soil or water solution and they will give you a quick reading.

Growing Medium
Nutrients and Supplements

Growing weed such as marijuana or cannabis at the comfort of your home can be a rewarding experience, but if you don’t have the right equipment, things can go seriously wrong. However, if you’ve gone through all the information we’ve compiled in this article, you’re pretty much safe from making an adverse decision. Just make sure you know exactly what you have in mind to purchase the ideal environment for your dream grow room, and you’ll be safe. Happy gardening!

From top to between marijuana grow light how far I need to keep? 420 Guide

If you’ve spent any time searching for the best height to hang your grow lights, you’ve probably found a bunch of wildly different answers.

From there, you’ll gradually move the lights closer to the canopy, while monitoring your plants closely. This way, you’ll end up finding the sweet spot for your particular garden.

That’s the best anyone can do for you. The perfect hanging height depends on so many factors that no one could ever provide an accurate answer.

But if you follow the recommendations below, you will have no trouble finding the perfect distance to hang your grow lights above your particular canopy.

We’ll begin with LED grow lights, then we’ll cover HID lights, then fluorescent lights, and finally ceramic metal halide.

What distance should my LED grow light be from my plants?

LED grow lights don’t produce anywhere near as much heat as HPS systems so you can theoretically get them much closer to your plants without running the risk of damaging them. LED lights are more penetrating than HPS lights however different brands of bulbs / kits have different qualities, view angles & coverage areas.

In general you want to place your LED grow light 6-12 inches above your canopy although different manufacturers have different guidance depending on how they are built.

A good rule of thumb to follow when figuring out the distance to put your LED light from your plants is to get them as close as possible without compromising the coverage area and leaving plenty of room for them to grow into.

HID Light Spacing: How Close Is Too Close?

HID grow lights can produce a strong amount of heat while it’s turned on. With that said, if you’ll be using these as your light source, this should not be placed too close to your plants as it will quickly dry them up.

Here’s a suggested guide on how far you should be placing the HID grow lights away from your plants based on the wattage:

400W – 600W: 12 to 19 inches away from your plants

600W – 1000W: 14 to 26 inches away from your plants

More than 1000W: 16 to 31 inches away from your plants

Fluorescent Grow Lights

Fluorescent grow lights give you a nice, easy blend of energy and spectrum output. They effective enough to grow nearly any plant, but to do so, you’ll need to hang them pretty close.

What makes hanging fluoresent lights so tricky is that not all of them are the same. For instance, CFL bulbs can generate some decent heat over an extended period of time because of their compact size, whereas a longer 54w 2ft T5 grow light won’t generate lots of heat because it can dissipate it along its tube. Not only that, but the more bulbs you use the more heat you’ll generate, which is dangerous if it’s hung too close to the plants.

Fluorescent lighting isn’t known for kicking off lots of heat, but they will generate some heat while they run so you’ll need to watch your plants carefully for signs of burning or bleaching. In general, you’ll want to hang your light no more than 12″ away from your plants.

Coco Coir vs Soil: Which is Better for Grow Cannabis? 420 Guide for Beginners

Whether you are a beginner to cannabis growing, or an old-timer who is thinking about changing their technique, selecting the right growing method takes some thinking about. You need to select a medium that suits both your growing space and your skill-set so that your marijuana plants prosper. You will definitely have heard of soil growing but what about Coco Coir?

WHAT IS COCO COIR?

Coco coir is the recycled and processed natural fibre from the husk of coconuts, grown mostly in India and Sri Lanka. What was once regarded as waste material, in contrast today constitutes a magnificent growing medium for cannabis plants both indoors and outdoors. With a pH of typically between 6.5-7.0, coco coir is comparable to unfertilised soil. Coco coir is available from most grow shops in 50l sacks. It’s sold just like soil. But usually more readily available in tightly compressed coco bricks.

Why Use Coco Coir for Growing Cannabis?

Great for Plant Roots – Coco coir is effective at holding onto moisture and nutrients for roots, but also has a lighter texture that lets it hold onto more oxygen. This helps prevent over and underwatering. Coco coir tends to promote healthy and fast root development compared to other potting mixes.

Good for the Environment – Unlike peat, coco coir is sustainable for the environment. It also doesn’t have to be replaced every grow. Instead of breaking down like peat, coco coir is slow to break down and can be used more than once.

Grow Faster than Soil – Coco gives a lot of benefits of hydroponics, which causes plants to grow fast by providing nutrients to the roots in the most easily accessible form. Plant roots don’t have to go out and search for nutrients, saving the plant precious energy. But growing directly in water can be complicated. Coco coir gives many of the benefits of hydro with a soil experience. This results in a quicker harvest and bigger yields for you as the grower.

Soil’s a very forgiving media – it already contains nutrients and beneficial microbes to help maintain plant health and ward off diseases.

Since roots are insulated by the soil, air temperature variation has less of an impact on the root zone.

You don’t even have to adjust the pH of your nutrient solution. Why? Soil microbes and organic matter have the ability to modify the pH range to allow for nutrient uptake. However, if you regularly apply a nutrient solution with a pH below 5 or above 8, you will see benefit from adjusting the pH to between 5.5 and 6.5. Just don’t overdo it.

Are you ready to grow marijuana at home? If you like, we suggest you to grow it by using complete cannabis grow kit, you will find indoor grow tent and commercial grow light in the kit, also you will save your money and time by using grow kits.

How to Determine Quality Cannabis Using Touch? 2019 Updated

Most people use their sight and smell to distinguish quality cannabis, but touch is perhaps one of the most underrated (and most important) ways of appraising cannabis quality.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN THE BEST QUALITY CANNABIS?

THE LOOK

The first thing you want to look at, especially if you are paying by weight, is if there are seeds or stems in the weed. The seeds cause a nasty smell and harsh taste when combusted and the sticks might poke holes in your rolling papers. Separating them when crumbling your weed can be a real headache. More importantly, they add weight, that takes away from the more potent buds.

The colouration is also important. You want green buds; brown is definitely not a good sign. There might be other colourations, such as purple, red or orange, but the overall colour should be green. Not only the colouration of the buds is important, it is also important to look at the colouration of the THC crystals on the trichomes.

Using touch and sight

For hygiene reasons most dispensaries will not let you touch their cannabis, but it is worth giving the bud a light squeeze in the bag to check for moisture content. If the bud crumbles, it is too dry. If it feels like a marshmallow, it is likely too moist. A properly cured bud should have a small amount of give to the touch but should retain its shape.

Another good test for proper moisture content is to bend a large stem, while listening and feeling for a crisp, audible ‘snap’. If the stem does not snap, it is too moist. If the stem crumbles, the bud is likely contaminated with microbes that have broken down the stem’s structure.

Moisture

Light moisture is the first sensation you should be noticing from a cannabis flower. “A blanket of crystal-like trichomes gives cannabis flowers a sugared appearance. Unlike table sugar, however, trichome resin glands should feature slight but detectable moisture.”

Gently squeeze your bud and see if you can hear an audible crack. If your cannabis is treated well and fresh, it should not make any cracking noises and can actually be slightly sticky to the touch.

Are you ready to grow cannabis? If you like, we suggest you to grow it at home by using cannabis grow tent and indoor grow light, also you can choose a complete grow package, too. The grow package can save your time and money.

Is it true that LED light is less effective for cannabis growing? 2019 Updated

For the last 50+ years, indoor cannabis cultivators have used High Pressure Sodium (HPS) lights to illuminate their flowering crops. This technology was developed for, and is still used, as street lighting and there really hasn’t been a fundamental change to the output in the last half century. LED technology showed great promise to solve some of the primary drawbacks to the use of HPS technology for indoor cannabis cultivation.

We are often asked why this technology was used to grow cannabis, and the answers are simple: 1) due to strict legislation and even stricter penalties for growing cannabis, growers wished to move their crops indoors, and, 2) there really hasn’t been another technology that would allow us to cheaply place 400, 600, or even 1000W of light on a crop. In addition, HPS technology is rich in certain frequencies of red light, which is so important to flowering crops. Unfortunately, HPS grow lights have their drawbacks, such as high heat output and lack of other “colors,” along the lighting spectrum. In fact, up to 95% of light produced by an HPS lamp is emitted in the infrared range, which we perceive as heat.

LED Grow Lights — What is a Watt?
A watt is a unit of measure that describes the power used by an electrical circuit. Historically, consumers have used watts as a way to measure the amount of light produced by a light bulb. A 100 watt light bulb is much brighter than a 60 watt light bulb and two different brands of 100 watt incandescent bulbs have about the same brightness, because they use mostly the same technology.

If watts are an indication of brightness, then we should be able to use it as a way of comparing different types of LED grow lights and some manufacturers agree. They will try to sell you on the watts. Brand “A” at 20 watts is better than brand “B” at only 15 watts.

Unfortunately, it does not work that way for LED. A 100 watt light might actually have less useful light for plants than a 50 watt light.

Advantages of LED Grow Lights

Quick Harvest Cycle
LED grow lights can be used for 24 hours a day with little effect on temperature. When growing plants indoors, lack of environmental feedback means the plants rely on you to tell them what season it is and with it, how they should behave.

The use of LED lights enables you to change the daylight hours and the amount of red wavelength light at the exact right time to maximize the plant growth rate.

When LED light is used to grow auto flowering plants, multiple harvests are possible in one season. You is able to alter flowering times in plants and increase production.

Less Heat

By definition, one Watt of electricity produces 3.41 Btu of heat when consumed by any light-emitting source. LED, high-pressure sodium, metal-halide, florescent, induction and plasma lights all abide by this principle.

The basic reason LED lights produce less heat is less Watts are being consumed. Also, LEDs do not instantly convert more than half of the watts consumed into infrared heat, as their HPS/MH counterparts do.Here are some reasons why.

Energy efficient
This is the most outstanding feature of LED grow lights. They consume as little as half of the energy HPS or CFL lamps take up. A 10W LED can easily replace a 60W incandescent light bulb.

The energy amount depends on the stage of your cannabis plant. Usually, grow lights need to stay switched on for 9 to 18 hours so that the plant can photosynthesize and grow healthily.

Having LED grow lights will markedly reduce your electricity bill, so they are light on the pocket in the long run.

THEY RUN COOL
LEDs produce a lot less heat compared to HID grow lights, which can be a big advantage as you won’t require extra cooling systems in your grow room or tent to keep temperatures optimal. This is especially advantageous if you grow in summer or happen to live in a warmer climate. The downside to this is that if you live somewhere cold, you may now need to consider a heater in the colder months. But as LEDs save you money over time, this can make up for the potential costs of running a heater.

Do cannabis in DWC systems grow faster? 420 Guide for Beginners

One of the best crop production techniques in the market today, especially for weed farmers is hydroponics farming. Many of the farmers that practice hydroponics growing of their plants use the DWC system. DWC or DEEP WATER CULTURE may sound strange to some people but to those that do hydroponics plant production, the term may not sound very strange. This method requires the suspension of plant roots in a nutrient rich oxygenated water solution. Others common hydroponics methods are are nutrient film technique, and ebb and flow. Among all these methods, Deep-Water Culture system, which is the simplest.

The reason why the method gets the name Deep-Water Culture is that the plants grow from a reservoir filled with the right amount of water. The more water the reservoir has the less maintenance the crops need and the more nutrients the solution holds.

What are the advantages of deep water culture?

Fast vegetative growth and bigger yields

Plants grown in DWC setups have easier access to oxygen and nutrients, which means they spend less energy searching for nutrients and developing roots. As a result, plants will reward you with fast vegetative growth and excellent yields. In a good DWC setup with the right nutrients and strain, cannabis can grow as much as 10cm in a single day!

Know that the speed of growth in a DWC doesn’t affect when your plants will be ready to harvest. The fast veg growth will result in bigger plants with fatter buds, but they will still require a normal flowering time.

Plants can grow larger

The lack of growing medium in a DWC allows your plants to take advantage of all the available space and nutrients to grow as large as possible.

Low-maintenance

Once a DWC system is set up and running, it requires very little everyday maintenance. You can even leave it alone for over 24 hours.

Do plants really grow faster in DWC?

Example of happy cannabis plants in the vegetative stage growing in a DWC hydroponic setup Yes, plants grow noticeably (and I mean noticeably) faster in deep water culture system during the vegetative stage than they do in soil or coco coir.

Why is that? Vegetative plants growing in soil spread out a huge system of roots, then they use those roots to search for and uptake nutrients from the soil in which they live. Roots in soil also need to find pockets of oxygen to prevent the plant from “drowning”(lack of oxygen is what causes plants to droop from being overwatered).
