Best LED Grow Lights: Reviews & Comparison (Updated 2020)

Growing your own marijuana isn’t necessarily an easy task. It requires a lot of creativity, a good dose of patience, and the proper tools to get the job done. From watering hoses to potting soils, there is no shortage of tools you will need to start growing your own marijuana.

No matter what methods and techniques you use to grow your own cannabis plants at home, you need to equip yourself with the best LED grow lights to help you get started. Whether you are growing marijuana for recreational purposes, to share with friends, or for your own mental health, you have to have the right tools for growing.

ACTUAL WATTS: Actual watts are what an LED light actually draws from the wall socket, and can be found by looking for information about how much electricity the light consumes.

Most grow light manufacturers use the total number of LED chips in their title as it looks more impressive. But this is misleading, as the true power of the light is nowhere near this value. For example, a light consisting of 100 3w LED chips might be called a 300w grow light, when the actual power draw is only 160w (actual watts).

Vegging vs Flowering
Are you vegging, flowering, or both? There are LED grow lights for weed for growing that are designed specifically for vegging your plants (blue shifted lights) and LEDs for flowering your plants (red spectrum lights). Light fixtures with these specific spectrums may also be used in addition to full spectrum LED grow lights or other types of grow lighting to provide an extra boost during veg and bloom phases of your grow.

HOW TO TRIM WEED?

For a perfectly rounded and smokable bud, you have to do your trimming properly. This is where we step in to teach you how to trim like a pro. Whether you choose to trim your buds while they are wet or dry, a proper trim ensures you get the final product you’re looking for. To learn more about trimming, read this instructional article.
The Essentials of Trimming Weed
It is essential to trim weed while you are going through the harvesting process. Why? Well, it lowers the harshness of the completed product. In comparison to the buds, the leaves have more chlorophyll. And for that reason, acidity to the throat might be the result, especially when the temperature hits the leaves. So, it is important to get rid of the leaves so the buds can be much easier to smoke and also smoother to smoke. When you trim your weed, it helps to boost the THC concentration. By nature, leaves have lower trichome concentration. If the marijuana leaves are on the bud, you will find fewer trichomes and lower THC in the product as a result. This will definitely affect the level of potency, the smoking experience and the flavor.

WHAT IS HAND TRIMMING?
Hand trimming is exactly what it sounds like. The leaves of each bud are individually trimmed by hand. Hand trimming is the traditional method of removing leaves and other unwanted plant material from your buds. It is a time-tested method that consistently delivers excellent results, albeit at a slow pace. However, if you have some dedicated trimmers, some time, and some patience, hand trimming will truly offer you the best result.
WHAT IS MACHINE TRIMMING?
A dry trimming machine can save you a huge amount of time in the trimming process. Typically, you can expect to take a full day to hand trim about a pound of weed. With a dry trim machine, that amount jumps up to 8 to 16 pounds an hour. Don’t expect a dry trimming machine to completely replace the hand trim. But it can get the job about 80% done, leaving you with just a bit of hand finishing at the end.

How to Prune a Marijuana Plant in 5 Steps?

Step 1: Prepare the Tools
To start, get a pair of garden scissors or clippers and make sure that they are sharp.

Step 2: Remove Big Branches
Removing the bigger branches first will make it easier to work on the smaller details.

Step 3: Clear Out the Middle
Branches that grow in the middle of the plant are not as strong as the ones on top. So, clear them out as well.

Step 4: Work on the Leaves and Bud Sites
For the leaves, always start with the yellowing or dying ones.

Step 5: Give Time for Recovery
As mentioned, it takes time for the plant to heal the wounds of the cutting. So, give it a few days to recover from the shock. In the meantime, make sure to provide proper care by continuing to provide its basic needs. Within a week of the pruning, we can notice the vigorous growths of new shoots and leaves.

Centurion Tabletop Pro Trimmer

All of their models come with two sets of electroplished stainless steel tumblers: one made specifically for dry trimming and one made for wet bud. The advantage of this over having a single universal tumbler to handle both type of buds is that each tumbler is designed to maximize quality and speed.

The wet tumbler uses narrower slats so there is more open area for the buds to come into contact with the cutting blade. This makes for both a tighter and a faster cut. You only need one pass, instead of two, cutting your processing time in half.

Do LED Grow Lights Work? (And Which Ones Do So At A Good Price?)

YES. LED grow lights work very well for indoor plant growth! Various universities and government agencies like NASA have used LED Grow lights to grow a variety of flowering, fruit-bearing plants and leafy greens. Many indoor growers from hobbyists to professional cultivation centers have documented indoor grows with LED grow lights. LED grow lights have a proven track record over 8 years. Our lights have been upgraded several times to become the highest yielding LED grow light system on the market. Follow our indoor growing tips to help produce optimal growth and yield.

Do LED Grow Lights Use A Lot Of Electricity?
It depends on the light. A powerful LED grow light uses a lot of electricity. But it uses less than other forms of light that give you the same output.

They are more efficient than any other type of lighting, which basically means you pay less in power costs to get the same results. But you will still have a large monthly power bill. It just won’t be as large as it would be with HID lights, or any other type.

Full Spectrum LED Grow Lights have revolutionized indoor gardening.

HPS grow lights and fluorescent grow lights, the type that have been around for a long time, can’t match sunlight’s spectral distribution. LED lights, on the other hand, are made with multiple diodes, each of which is tuned to a specific part of the spectrum. By combining diodes in the right ratio, full spectrum grow lights can be configured to provide the precise wavelengths plants need to thrive in all stages of their growing cycle.

Modern LED lights are engineered to reduce the amount of heat given off, either by use of a heat sink or by diverting heat away from the diodes. All this points to a winning argument for LED lights, but if you are a new gardener or simply don’t want to sink a lot of money into your indoor growing system, traditional grow lights will work just fine. Just remember that the cost of replacement and energy will overall be fractionally higher as time goes by.

Are COB LED Grow Lights Better For Plants?

Yes. One of the big advantages of COB LED systems is their simplicity. You only need a handful of components and it is actually quite easy to just rig up your own grow light (many do just this). Here are the basic components you need:

  • the actual chip-on-board LED itself
  • a heat sink to keep the COB cool
  • an LED driver to power the COB
  • wires to connect the COB and driver
  • optional: COB holder
  • optional: reflector

What Really is This COB LED Grow Light?

Well, all we know is that COB stands for Chip-On-Board. It is an LED packaging latest advancement that shows mounting of multiple Light Emitting Diode Chips directly into a surface of a particular material in order for these chips to form a single module.

In other words, a minuscule wired, that is packed altogether into a piece of ceramic or copper board so that they exist as a sole light source.

It’s like this.

When a COB LED grow light is energized, it would appear more like a lighting “panel” than multiple single lights just like on the other case of a particular LED grow lights. For instance, SMD LEDs mounted altogether.

Best LED Strips Grow Light Review

What are Grow Lights?
The indoor grow lights are the artificial light source that is used to initiate and stimulate plant growth and provide the spectrum of light that is necessary to start the process of photosynthesis in the plants that are either deprived of direct sunlight or no light source exists at all. They are generally electrically powered and are used to provide the spectrum of the light that is similar to the sun in the conditions where the day lengths are short and plants are unable to receive the number of lights required for their optimum growth.

Why use a LED grow light?
In layman’s terms, grow lights for weed will help your plant life or crops thrive in a place where natural light is scarce, or give light-loving species a boost of valuable nutrients.

If you’re in a country which has lower amounts of natural light during certain parts of the year, then a grow light is absolutely essential to make sure your crops continue to develop. Vegetation needs light for photosynthesis. This is the process where a plant uses light (natural or artificial) to convert food and water into energy.

Best Bubble Bags | How To Make Bubble Hash With Bubble Bags

Making Hash with Bubble Bags
In the last few months I’ve been making bubble hash for Karmaceuticals, the dispensary where I usually budtend. As I mentioned above, there are many different ways to make hash, but one of the easiest and most effective methods involve using bubble bags, which are simply bags with a mesh that filters out the other plant matter in cannabis.

What is a Bubble Bag?
To make bubble hash, you’re going to need a bubble bag…or two…or three…or eight.

When you buy bubble bags, you typically don’t buy them individually (although you can if they become damaged).

Essentially, bubble bags are mesh bags.

The mesh holes on each bubble bag differs in size, causing each bag to yield different results.

Different mesh hole sizes allow for stricter screenings on the trimmings, resulting in finer results.

Finer results=less plant matter.

How To Make Bubble Hash With Bubble Bags?

First, the coarse filter bag is secured in a bucket and the water, ice, and plant material are added. The cannabis is agitated using a kitchen mixer or a drill with a paint-mixing attachment — it’s worth noting that hash “purists” deplore this level of agitation. After the material settles, the starter bag is pulled out and squeezed. The bulk of the plant material now held in this bag is set aside. This material can be processed again, but the resulting product will be lower grade, though still suitable for cooking.

Line the empty bucket with the additional bags. The finest bag goes in first, so it will be on the bottom. The green water is poured into the bucket, lined with the filtering bags. Pull the bags out one by one and collect the material in the bottom of each one. Allow the end product to dry. Toss the water out or use it for watering plants.

HOW TO TRIM CANNABIS FOR NICE BUDS?

Marijuana plants must be well cared-for and carefully harvested. Wear gloves and choose the time you trim your plants carefully. Trim the top off your plant to allow the leaves to get more light. Remove dead, yellow leaves and smaller buds from the lower portion of the plant. Don’t over-prune your marijuana plant or you could diminish its growth potential.

WHEN you prune is as important as HOW you prune
You can start thinking about pruning in the second week of the growing phase. At that time, your plant will have several internodes, and you’ll be able to see a bit how it’s growing. If you are growing an Indica plant, wait another week – they grow a bit slower than Sativas.

Since growing continues until the third week of flowering, you can prune up to the second week of flowering. This gives your plants some time to recover. They’ll always need a couple of days to recover after a pruning session.

Why Trim Your Weed?
Why you should trim your weedFirst things first. You want your cannabis to look good. If you’ve never trimmed weed before, the buds that come off a plant once its harvested look nothing like the buds you buy from the dispensary. Trimmed weed looks more appealing and takes on a more even appearance, and probably looks much like the buds you’re likely accustomed to smoking.

The little leaves that are on your untrimmed buds are known as sugar leaves. They have a lower concentration of trichomes which should be removed in order to open up the richer trichome content in the buds.

Step 1: choose the right time

Selecting the ideal time to cut your marijuana plants will be a factor impacting the quality of your crop.
Regardless of the week in the cannabis life cycle when you decide to harvest, the perfect time of day to do so is in the morning.
Step 2: harvest

Cut them at the base, one at a time. Cutting all your plants and leaving them lying there waiting to be trimmed makes no sense. You can harvest whole plants and / or branches, for which we recommend removing the largest leaves first. With the bulkiest material out of the way, it will be much easier to trim the buds. You can remove the large leaves before cutting the plant, so that it remains standing and it’s easier, or after cutting it, as you prefer.
Step 3: Trim

Now, we finally get to trim buds! First, fill your tray with a reasonable amount of buds, not too many because it can get messy and disorganized that way. Next, we like to trim the stem at the bottom of the branch as closely as possible, but be careful, you don’t want to dismantle the buds from the plant.
Following that step, we need to remove what we call the “crow’s feet.” These are little branches that resemble birds’ feet, and are found at the bottom of the nugget.
How to Trim Cannabis?

We find it easiest to trim off at least some of the larger, prominent fan leaves while they’re still fairly wet. Removing bulky leaves helps promote drying. Additionally, as the leaves dry they will curl around themselves and the buds, which makes it more difficult to slip the trimming snips in there. On the other hand, after the cannabis has dried, the leftover leaves can become so brittle and loose that they are easy to flick off with the end of your snips or even a toothpick.
Fine Trimming

Once you have trimmed off as many leaves as you can, remove anything that is obviously not bud. But keep it short and sweet — those delicate little hairs covering your buds are packed full of THC and CBD, so touch them as little as possible and don’t trim them off. Once this step is finished, you can take your buds to dry.

How to Make Hash? | A Complete Guide

How to Make Hash from Cannabis?
If you are ready to make hash from weed, we will take you through the process. The hash making process is very simple, and there are multiple ways to make hashish. The key is separating the THC-rich trichomes from the rest of the plant material, then applying heat and pressure. Trichomes are the white frosty hairs of the female marijuana plant.

Easy homemade hash from leaves and trimmings
The trichome resin glands form on the leaves, buds and branches of the cannabis plant. Usually the buds are harvested and the rest is thrown away. Most people simply can’t be bothered making hash from the waste leaves and the waste trimmings which remain after harvest. After all, they have already got plenty of top quality buds. But with a small amount of effort this waste material can be used to make hash. What’s more, it can be surprising just how much hash you can make from waste plant material. Some growers also convert their buds into hash.

USING BUBBLE BAGS

This is a relatively new method of creating hash and requires some specialised equipment. However, it is an extremely efficient method and can produce large yields.

Now that you have your materials, put your cannabis trim/flower in a large bucket with the dry ice. Stir and shake this lightly for a few minutes. This will help the resin glands separate from the plant material. It’s the temperature that causes this. Using dry ice is primarily to keep your product from becoming too humid.

The next step will be to get your bubble bag and wrap it around the top of the bucket so that you can turn it upside down. Find a large, flat, and clean surface. Turn the bucket upside down, transferring all your product and dry ice to the bag. Once you have a safe and tight grip on the bag, shake it on top of your surface. After doing this for a few minutes, you’ll see the surface filled with amber-looking dust. Get a card and scrape it all together. This will be your resin, and it probably looks delicious. To turn it into hash, place in the pollen press and follow the same directions as above.

Pressing
Pressing unrefined hash into balls, cakes, or slabs creates hashish; all steps of the process are consumable, but making hashish is a two-step process: First, the glands are collected; second, the collected material is compressed into bricks or balls.

Pressing hash involves a combination of force and mild heat to condense the glands into a solid mass. The shape and size of hash varies depending on the pressing method. When hand pressed, hash is often ball-shaped. Flat-pressed hash may look like thin shale rock, with hardened shelf-like layers that chip along the creases. Mechanically pressed hash is usually a neat cake, like a bar of soap.

TURNING KIEF INTO HASH

Some of the methods we looked at above (such as the dry screening and mechanical drum methods) simply create kief. There are two ways to turn this kief into hash blocks.

The first relies on pure force. Simply load your kief into a kief press and press it into a nice, firm block (some kief presses suggest letting leaving your kief in the press for up to a week).

If you don’t have a hash press and only want to process a small amount of kief, you can also wrap it in baking paper and press it together firmly with your fingers.
